Emerging Scholars

Harvesting Scholars DBA/Scholars To Leaders, Inc.

Youth Development Program

It is never too early to start preparing for the future.

Students from marginalized backgrounds have limited access to STEM resources, classes and experiences. Studies show that many students, especially those from lower-income backgrounds, find that classes necessary for STEM success are stressful and anxiety-provoking. Such experiences of stress can lead to underperformance and compromise students’ ability to advance in STEM.  Our goal is to empower youth to develop the confidence to excel in science, technology, engineering, and math and to develop key developmental areas focused on real-world application to raise the bar for future success.

Our Goal

STEM jobs are projected to grow faster, provide greater earning potential, and produce lower rates of unemployment than non-STEM jobs. Our aim is to reduce the achievement gap between higher- and lower-income students in STEM and related areas as one way to open up career opportunities for our students.

Our Approach

  • STEM Activities that empower youth to excel in science, technology, engineering, and math.

    • Coding Basics using the Girls Who Code Curriculum

    • Host STEM Resource Fairs

    • Provide Math & science enrichment

    • Access to our STEMstirs Club

  • Field trips to college campuses and local businesses

    • We have visited Kennesaw State University and Chattahoochee Technical College

    • Middle Georgia College Aviation program

  • Guest speakers and exposure to careers in STEM and a variety of careers

    • Morehouse College NAVAL Sea perch Program

The STEMstirs tackle a week of science experiments to beat the summer slump. This experiment was based on erosion and how water and constant washing/friction against a surface can break down an object's properties. We used a Tootsie Roll Pop to demonstrate the effects.

STEMstirs experiment with eggs & vinegar turning raw eggs into bouncing eggs!
